Homemade Steamed Dumplings with Jam and Poppy Seeds
50 min
Easy
8 portions
This is exactly the kind of recipe that will remind you of your childhood. When I was little, all it took was to hear 'grandma is making dumplings today' and we all gathered in the kitchen. The milk was warming up, the yeast and sugar were added, the dough was being kneaded. Memories of warm home. Today, when I make them, I always smile - because I know that this dish has something more than just flour and jam. It has memories in it.

Instructions
1
Dough
Warm up the milk (not hot!), add yeast and a spoon of sugar, let the yeast rise. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, egg, butter, and the risen yeast. Knead smooth dough and let it rise for about 45-60 minutes.
2
Shaping
Roll out the risen dough, cut into squares, place jam in the center, and seal into a ball.
3
Steamed Dumplings
Place a steamer or cloth in a pot with boiling water, arrange the dumplings with space between them, cover, and steam for 15-20 minutes.
4
Finishing
Brush the finished dumplings with butter, sprinkle with poppy seeds or nuts and sugar.

TIP
For extra fluffy dumplings, add a spoon of rum to the dough - it helps during steaming and makes them beautifully fluffy. And the kids? They always ask for them with chocolate topping.
