Wash and dice peppers and tomatoes. Finely chop onions and garlic. Slice hard cheese edam into larger slices and grate smoked cheese finely.
Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions until golden. Then add ground meat and sauté it. After a few minutes, add ketchup, salt, black pepper, basil, and finely chopped garlic cloves.
Next, prepare the béchamel sauce. Melt butter in a pan over low heat, sprinkle with flour. Pour in milk and cook until the sauce thickens slightly. The sauce for lasagne should not be too thick. Finally, add a pinch of salt, cook a bit more, and remove from heat.
Grease a baking dish with fat or oil and pour béchamel sauce on the bottom. Arrange lasagne sheets (if using pre-cooked lasagne, no need to boil them). Pour a bit of béchamel sauce over the lasagne, sprinkle with a layer of hard cheese edam, and add a layer of meat mixture. Add another layer of lasagne sheets and repeat the previous steps - pour béchamel sauce, hard cheese, and ground meat over the lasagne. Finish layering with lasagne sheets, lightly drizzle with sauce and a mixture of smoked cheese prepared by beating one egg white. Add finely grated smoked cheese, basil, garlic, and a pinch of salt to the mixture and pour it over the top of lasagne.
Bake the lasagne in a covered oven at 180°C for about 45 minutes. Towards the end of baking, you can uncover the top to allow the lasagne to brown slightly on top.
