Instructions
Prepare the dough yourself or use store-bought dough. Sprinkle raisins with rum and let them soak.
Nut filling
Melt butter in a pan. Add breadcrumbs and slowly toast over low heat until golden brown. Towards the end, mix in the nuts, briefly roast them, and remove from the heat.
Peel and core the apples and quickly drizzle with lemon juice. Then, depending on the acidity of the apples, add more or less sugar, mix in ground cloves and a strong pinch of cinnamon. Preheat the oven to 180°C with hot air, grease a suitable baking dish with butter.
It is best to spread the prepared strudel dough so that the strudel rests on parchment paper. Spread the nut filling on about half of the dough. Sprinkle with apples and raisins on top. Gently brush the remaining dough surface with melted butter, fold the edges, and roll up the strudel.
Seal the ends well and lift the strudel into the pan using parchment paper. Brush the dough with egg and bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown.
Vanilla cream
Cook a thin custard from the listed ingredients, slightly thickening it with cornstarch.
Remove the finished strudel, let it cool, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Pour a little vanilla cream into a plate, place the strudel, and serve.
